“Lars, the Polar Bear” visits Genesee Valley Center

November 19, 2004, Flint, MIChildren’s storybook character, Lars, the Polar Bear is probably the most famous polar bear in the world.  He’s the creation of Dutchman Hans de Beer and he lives in the artic.  Local children can learn more about Lars the Polar Bear and his adventures at the weekend readings of this book by Genesee Valley Center’s storyteller and actor “King Arthur,” and his “queen” in King Arthur’s Castle playground in the JCPenney court.

Readings with the “king” are scheduled on Friday, November 26 and Saturday, November 27 at 10 am. 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the new playground “King Arthur’s Castle.” The queen will read on Sunday, November 28 at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Following each reading, the character Lars, the Polar Bear will appear for a meet and greet and an opportunity to take photos.  Customers are encouraged to bring their cameras or visit Ritz Camera, a tenant located near the play area, for cameras and supplies.

Local children will learn more about Lars the Polar Bear and his adventures. Lars often gets lost and meets other animals from all over the world.

“The good message in this story,” said Lili Donaldson, marketing manager at the Valley, “is that Lars isn’t a hero.  He looks for his own way in life, is allowed to make mistakes and he isn’t expected to know everything.  This is certainly a lesson we all could benefit from.”

Each weekend, throughout the holidays, Genesee Valley Center’s “king and queen” storytellers will present a new children’s character and story on Friday, Saturday and Sundays at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. in “King Arthur’s Castle” playground in the JCPenney court.  For more information visit geneseemall.com or pick up the calendar of events at the customer service desk.
